Streets of Manila - Greeting Cards

07 Jan 2010

I was asked to create 5 designs for a set of greeting cards that would be given away as souvenirs for a group of balikbayans. I was in the mood to draw yesterday , and here are a couple of designs I came up with:

How would you like your Dirty Ice Cream? :)

I'll post more when I'm done with the whole set! :)

Wall Graphics for HAB & Orange Juice

05 Jan 2010

Happy New Year to everyone! Hello, 2010! I feel so refreshed and inspired after the long break. It's a busy start-of-the-year for me as I meet up with a nice mix of new and familiar clients every day this week. Hopping from mall to mall yesterday, I was greeted by a few fruits of last year's labor. :P Check them out!

My friend Georgina of Marketect and I worked together on the updating of the Big&Small Co. stores. Here are some of the things that I drew/designed for them!

>>stART with Mio

For the past couple of months, I've been busy organizing fundraisers for the 5-year old son of my good friend who was diagnosed with Leukemia. I'm so passionate about helping him maybe because the kid loves to draw. I was given the task to create fundraisers out of his drawings and doodles. Initially, we were just going to make merchandise to sell. But I thought, how can we make it bigger, so that even people who don't know Mio would appreciate and buy the art, for a higher price? That's how I came up with the idea for >>stART with Mio. With the help of these generous artists and designers who "stARTed with Mio", Gallery7 in Eastwood Mall, and my awesome team (Jobelle, Tiffy, Katwo), our exhibit is now open for viewing, and works are now up for sale!

We had out Exhibit Opening last December 9, 2009, and it was a gathering of all people passionate about art. Looking into the details of the kid's daily doodles, one would instantly understand how a child his age could inspire a group of professional artists and designers to create something great. At 5 years old, Mio is indeed one talented drawer--he truly deserves to have his name up in lights. He draws with the childlike innocence that all artists dream they never, ever lose. His subject selection is random and fun. His crayon strokes, though imperfect, have a sense of confidence in them. When noticed for his drawing skills, he becomes shy and doesn't really understand the compliments, because to him, drawing is a normal, everyday thing, and something that he just simply loves to do.

Artists, musicians, designers, actors and directors came to support the event and to express their appreciation for Mio's art and the awesome work the Artists did in continuing his drawings. We were all so happy that many of the artworks were sold on the first night (but don't worry, there are still a lot available!).  Artists and art-lovers mingled about and the event was buzzing with creativity as crayons, markers and postcards with Mio's seed artworks served as table centerpieces.

The exhibit is interactive and unique: Guests' artworks are exhibited as well!

Guests drew their own stART with Mio art on postcards and stuck them on the exhibit wall. Kids of ALL ages are most welcome to come and create their own stART with Mio postcards and can get a chance to be exhibited together with the spectacular artworks by the pros.

Delicious wine and cocktails kept everyone's bellies satisfied, all prepared by Chef Edward Bugia of Pino, a restaurant that is passionate about Food and Art. Favorite Nori Cheese Sticks, Pork & Shrimp Lemongrass Skewers, and Tofu Balls were among the mouth-watering picapicas served on opening night.

Soiree for SM Dept. Store

Spotted this last night at SM Mall of Asia! I got so excited when I saw this!

I made the logo and artwork (which is not yet out) for a new brand, Soiree, that carries clothes perfect for partying. You can check out this new line at SM's Girls Teens Wear department.

You see, this is all too cool because I actually worked in SM, in that same department, about 4 years ago, as my first job after college. But I quit because I realized I wanted to DESIGN stuff myself, and not be on the client side. It's amazing that I'm actually getting to do work for them now--literally a dream-come-true/full-circle moment for me!! (Thanks, Jas!) I'm working on a couple of other new brands for them, and I'll post them here as soon as I see them in the stores.

In other (random) news: I made tacos today! (Vegetarian, of course!) And I'm posting how to make them. Yumyumyum...

Tofu Tacos
(Makes 4-6 tacos)

Ingredients for Tofu Fingers:
4 tofu squares (about 2x2inches per square) :: Egg replacement equivalent to 1 egg, or 1 egg White :: Black Pepper :: Breadcrumbs :: Olive oil

Taco Condiments:
tortilla wrapper :: lettuce :: red raddish :: coriander leaves :: lemon/lime :: tomato salsa :: cilantro pesto :: chili con queso - (the last 3 items are bottled goodies from the grocery)

Procedure:
Mash the tofu. Mix in the egg replacement or eggwhite. Add about 2tsp of pepper. Mix. Mold about 2 spoons of the mixture into fat fingers and roll them in the breadcrumbs. Pan-fry them in olive oil, til golden brown. SOOOO Easy.
Heat the tortilla wrappers in an oven toaster (or wherever, above a heated pan, maybe). Add chopped lettuce, thinly sliced raddish, and fresh coriander leaves. Add the tofu fingers and drizzle your salsa and sauces. Squeeze lime/lemon.

Eat, eat, eat and make your tummy happy! :)
